Our History

Captain Kirk was born in 1959 in Racine, WI and grew up sailing the waters of Lake Michigan. His parents brought him to Destin at the age of 15 where he started fishing as a summer job on Party boats and cleaning fish for Shirah's fish market. He went on to mate for his dad, Capt Russ, and other Captains after a short stay at FSU(1 year) and by the age of 24 had earned his Captains license and bought his first boat, a 1965 48' Guthrie, which he named the ENTERPRISE. He has been fishing mainly in Destin waters ever since except for a few winter season explorations to the south. In 2002 he bought his new boat and named it the SS ENTERPRISE. In 2006 he sold the old boat and became a 1 boat owner/operator once again.(happy day). For the past 24 years Captain Kirk has worked hard at building his business and reputation although his favorite job has been raising his 5 children; Mckinley,age 5, Chason-13, Sasha-18, Travis-20, and Hayley-22, who had his first Grand Daughter in April, 2007, right in the middle of Cobia season. Of course, no captain worth his salt can raise a family without a good wife and Kirk says, "Mine is one of the best. Thanks Denise. I love you." She also loves to fish and won the inaugural Harbor Docks Women's World Championship in 1994, but has had to sacrifice much of her fishing time for the kid's since then. The kids have all won a trophy or two over the years as well. They all love to fish too.

"A good fishing trip is only as good as the man on the deck that deals directly with the anglers. I have been fortunate over the years to have some of the finest professional mates in Destin work the deck for me and I appreciate their hard work and all the good times we've shared.
